Messinger Frog Bass Bug

Also sometimes called Messenger Frog or Messinger Bucktail Frog or Joe Messinger Frog, it is Ideal for big bass which have a hard time resisting the fly.

The pattern is credited to Joe Messinger Sr, a lengedary fly tyer. Joe Messinger Sr. was a resourceful and talented fly tier. Legend has it that he was a man who was told that he would be wheelchair or crutches bound the rest of his life after sustaining serious war injuries. But he wasn’t about to give up on life and took to fly fishing and tying flies.

Joe Messingers’s Bucktail Frog has probably received more attention and acclaim over the years than any other deer hair lure ever created.

The Messinger Frog has out-turned legs. As result, it gives this frog fly a realistic swimming frog action. The fly’s head is made out of deer hair. As a result, this  creates a nice profile for bass to hone in on. Loop weed guard allows you to throw this frog around lili pads which makes it a very dependable fishing fly.
