Humpy

The Humpy fly pattern, believed to have originated in the early 1940’s and originally tied by Californian Fly Tyer, Jack Horner is reputed to be probably one of the greatest surface fly ever devised. It also has a reputation for being difficult to tie.

It was originally known as the Horner’s Deer Hair Fly. As you may guess from the name, the body consists of either Elk or Deer Hair.  The fly can represent caddis flies, may flies, midges and terrestrials and is probably one of the most successful attractor flies created.

Many variations have evolved from this fly with the most popular being the Yellow-Humpy or Humpy-Yellow.

The fly can represent caddis flies, may flies, midges and terrestrials. It is probably one of the most successful attractor flies created.

Many variations have evolved from this fly with the most popular being the Yellow-Humpy or Humpy – Yellow.

Because of the hollow hair, a large profile and the way the hair is brought to bear, the fly has great floatability and can be used in most western streams. The Yellow Humpy can be used to imitate  small Golden Stoneflies and Little Yellow Sallies.

Great for fishing Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Atlantic Salmon, Grayling, Coho, Steelies etc.

Usually available in the following color variations: Black | Brown | Green | Red | Royal Green | White | Yellow

Great looking dry fly pattern. Hope it floats better than the Adams Parachute!
